Current differences in development of territories in Latvia
Abstract
The development of territories will be treated by the means of case studies in local municipalities. For one of them a civil parish in Aizkraukle district, an area influenced by the capital Riga, was chosen; for the others - parishes in Daugavpils district, located in the most depressed Latgale region.
In the paper consideration to the development characteristics of the Riga and Latgale regions, the Aizkraukle and Daugavpils districts will be given, drawn on published statistical data.
The development potential of the local municipalities will be covered through a brief outline of their economic capacity before 1990 and by analysis of location, demographic situation, employment and working places, local government budget income - expenditure structure as of 1996-1997 by the means of unpublished data, gathered by author during field trips.
