Rationale

The conference will provide a forum for discussion of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary aspects of multifunctional land use, its theory and concepts, various aspects of its implementation, first results and success stories in European landscapes.

The conference is organised around a series of key note presentations and moderated poster sessions setting the ground for extensive discussions on open scientific questions and mutual research actions. It is intended to publish the key note and other presentations in a comprehensive Springer book publication.

The International Workshop is part of a workshop series of the Landscape Tomorrow network.

The conference complements another LT supported event on „Multifunctionality of landscapes – analysis, evaluation and decision support”, May 18-19 2005, http://www.sfb299.de/conference/

The conference directly succeeds a meeting of the European Society of Soil Conservation (ESSC) on „Soil conservation issues in nordic countries”. The field trip will be organised jointly. http://www.zalf.de/essc/essc.htm

Publications

It is intended to publish key-note papers of the workshop in a special Landscape Tomorrow book publication at Springer Verlag. Manuscript will be peer reviewed before considering for this publication.


Conference fee

The conference fee for the Landscape Tomorrow Conference participants is 150 €.
For both Landscape Tomorrow and ESSC Conference the fee is 170 €.

Most of the participants are planned to accomodate in the London Hotel, but alternatives are available (the Pallas Hotel, the Draakon Hotel the Barclay Hotel, the Uppsala Hotel and The Vikerkaare Guesthouse).

The easiest way to get from Tallinn airport to Tartu is to take taxi from the airport to bus station. The cost of a taxi will be around 5-7 EUR. From there at least every hour, usually in every 30 minutes buses are going to Tartu. The travelling time is approximately 2h 15min, fare about 7-10 EUR.
